The Captain Planet Foundation and the Chattahoochee Nature Center celebrate our annual Earth Day Kids Fest.  The whole family will enjoy many ways to connect to nature and learn fun new ways to help the planet. 
 

Meet Captain Planet who will give you the power!  Visit interactive booths and exhibits from over 20 local environmental organizations!  Explore environmental themes such as clean water and air, wildlife and habitat protection, water conservation, and recycling while finding ways of taking green steps to a new level in your home and business!

 

 

Enjoy live environmentally themed music and entertainment. 

Toxic Vortex Voyage, hosted by Dr. Marcus Eriksen (Commando Weatherman),
will show the audience the recently discovered pollution in the vast area of the Pacific Ocean called Plastic Soup.  Dr. Eriksen will engage the kids by recycling plastic bottles to transform discarded water-skis into Water-Walkers.

Climate Quiz for Kids, hosted by Natalie Allen of Forecast Earth, will entertain kids with environmental and fun questions.  They will get prizes for each correct answer, and be amused at the same time.

Weather Wall, a reproduction of a studio set where forecasters report on-air, will offer youngsters a  chance to try their skills in forecasting.  Kids will take the microphone to present a report about severe weather and learn about phenomena such as tornadoes, hurricanes and lightning.

Frogmen Feature from Tadpole to Toad:  Ron Gagliardo of the Atlanta Botanical Garden (ABG) and Joe Mendelson of Zoo Atlanta will present the lifecycle of endangered frogs from "behind-the-scenes" of the recent frog baby boom at ABG.  Kids will get up close and personal with these rare amphibians.

An Inconvenient Truth - Kid Style:  Actor David Coburn, the voice of Captain Planet from the hit TV series Captain Planet & the Planeteers, will present a family friendly version of Al Gore’s slide show from the Academy Award-winning documentary.  Demonstrating the basic science of global warming, offering empowering solutions and heartfelt motivation to kids and their parents, we are reminded that, THE POWER IS YOURS

Earthman Concert: North American Environmental Educator of the Year, Lanny Earthman Smith, will use the power of music to educate and activate kids to become part of the solution to our environmental challenges.

 

 

Celebrate the 38th Anniversary of Earth Day while you meet
and interact with committed staff and volunteers from these
participating organizations!

 

Atlanta Audubon Society will answer all your questions about birds.  Learn about food webs and how to identify birds found in your backyard. 

 

Atlanta Botanical Garden will have their amphibian “rain chamber” on hand and will display frogs in different stages of development!

 

Chattahoochee Nature Center will showcase its native, non-releasable wildlife including animals from turtles to hawks!  Hike the grounds of CNC where you will discover wildlife and wildflowers throughout the day! 

 

Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area will help kids become a Junior Ranger!  Pick up an activity book to start on your path to becoming a Junior Ranger on the Chattahoochee River. 

 

City of Roswell, Fulton County Public Works Water Services, City of Alpharetta, and Keep North Fulton Beautiful will have an environmental sidewalk game, complete with prizes!    

 

Clean Air Campaign will have the Clean Air BAIR on-site from 10:00 – 12:00 to explore how important it is to have clean air for our kids. 

 

Dunwoody Nature Center will help kids discover all about birds!  Bird masks and scavenger hunts will be available, as well as information about our feathered friends. 

 

Environmental Designworks, LLC will demonstrate their toilet tank sink! Come discuss creative solutions to help the environment.  

 

Fernbank Museum of Natural History will showcase worm composting!  Discover what types of materials can be composted and see live worms at work. Learn how to set up your own worm composting bin at home.   

 

Georgia Organics is your one stop site for information on where to find local foods and sustainable farms.  Nature crafts will be provided. 

 

Georgia River Network will provide information about Paddle Georgia – a 7-day long canoe trip that happens every June! 

 

Georgia Wildlife Federation will let kids test their eyes to find camouflaged pieces of trash and learn simple ways to help protect wildlife and their habitat.  Free wildlife bracelets to color! 

 

Girl Scout Troop 3197 will have a game “CAN You Go Green”.  Prizes and recycling tips available! 

 

GreenEarth TV & Tech High will bring their cameras and explain their Center for Sustainable Technology at the Engineering Academy of Tech High. 


Lumpkin Coalition offers information on the plight of the Hemlock tree.  Make some pendant necklaces and take home some bookmarks and stamps! 

 

Mothers & Others for Clean Air will teach you where fine particle pollution comes from and how we can help.  Make and take home a particle collector and magnifying glass!

 

Park Pride will have each child envision their own ‘dream park,’ with Park Pride’s Park Visioning activity.

Reef Ball Foundation offers kids the chance to paint a reef ball!  Artificial reef balls are placed in the ocean as a way to rebuild our damaged reef system.

 

REI Families will learn about their P.E.A.K program – Promoting Environmental Awareness in Kids! 

 

Sierra Club Centennial Group uses the Enviroscape model to show how our daily activities affect our drinking water.  Learn about fish, the Kyoto Protocol, and easy ways you can make a difference.

 

Upper Chattahoochee Riverkeeper will have a pontoon boat available for rides on the water.  Learn more about how this organization helps to keep Atlanta’s water supply clean.
